Over 80 Years of
Innovative Solutions
The year was 1924. A daunting problem
faced companies in the materials processing industry. Their combustion-heated furnaces
were incapable of providing the controlled atmosphere required to process advanced new
materials. Determined to find a solution, a young engineer and an electric company
executive conceived a better heating method. They developed an electric-resistance-heated
furnace capable of meeting the stringent new process requirements. The Harper Electric
Furnace Corporation was born. Offering precise control of atmosphere and
temperature, Harper furnaces quickly became a quality standard among materials processors
and the forerunner of many innovations to come.
The Graphite Furnace: A Milestone in
Thermal Technology
When further evolution of materials
brought higher process temperature requirements, Harper responded with the first
commercial graphite-element furnace-equipment capable of operating at far higher
temperatures under precise atmospheric control.
Ever Widening Thermal Applications
Through the years, Harper has continually
anticipated the needs of materials processors and pioneered novel thermal technologies to
meet these requirements. The complexity and variety of today's applications would astound
even Harper's foresighted founders: Carbon composites for aviation, sports, and
medical equipment nuclear fuel inorganic chemicals advanced ceramics for aerospace and
automotive uses ferrites for power components, radio and TV sets advanced lighting
products electronic ceramics for computers and telecommunications modern metals processing
practical waste remediation.
Process Temperatures Up to 3,000° C
for Customers Worldwide
To serve these industries, Harper today
provides thermal systems which operate at temperatures up to 3,000°C under a variety of
process atmospheres. Harper engineers have custom designed furnace systems for customers
throughout North America, Europe, Mexico, Brazil, India, Korea, Japan, China, and
elsewhere around the world. And, as befits a global marketplace, in March, 1995, the
Harper Electric Furnace Company became Harper International.
Harper today is
organized along market specialties described on the following pages. Our product and
technology specialists serving these areas possess in-depth understanding of the unique
needs of each application. We regard our customer relationships as partnerships. And
to these partnerships we bring state-of-the art technology, a superb manufacturing
facility, experienced and dedicated employees, a willingness to address first-of-a-kind
applications, and an unparalleled reputation for quality and customer service. No wonder
70% of our business is with repeat customers. Like our equipment, our customer
relationships last.
