Advanced Ceramics are spearheading new product designs and capabilities, from the insulating tiles of the space shuttle to new, lightweight automobile engine components.

Among the advanced composite materials currently finding favor with designers are metal matrix composites. These enable designers to achieve far greater strength than the metal from which they're formed, at a fraction of the weight. Many also enhance desired properties such as corrosion and wear resistance, conductivity, and weight reduction.

To successfully develop and produce today's material systems requires innovative thermal technologies and a close working relationship between the material scientists and the Harper thermal technology team. As a result, Harper furnaces are currently processing some of the most advanced ceramics (parts and powder) in the world today, including aluminum nitride, boron nitride, silicon carbide, silicon nitride and other non-oxide materials.  We also supply systems for production of oxides (parts and powder) such as alumina, beryllia, and zirconia.

Designs employed include graphite tube and continuous graphite furnaces, molybdenum disilicide heated kilns, controlled atmosphere tunnel kilns, elevator kilns, rotary tube furnaces, and the patented carpet hearth kiln.
